What is a smoke colored Maine Coon cat?
Smoke Color Maine Coons are a solid color cat that carries an inhibitor gene which suppresses the color in the hair shaft.
This means that the cat’s hairs are dark at the tips but have much lighter colored bands near the bottom.
All solid colored Maine-coons can be affected by the inhibitor gene.
When a Maine Coon is affected by this gene in cats, they are labelled “Smoke” plus the underlining solid color.
Red Colored Maine Coon + Inhibitor Gene =Red Smoke Colored Maine Coon.
